Sukulenty to ostatnio bardzo modne wnętrzarskie rośliny. Zwykle gdy o nich myślimy, widzimy drobne zielone maluchy, takie jak tutaj. Tym razem chciałam Wam pokazać zdecydowanie większe okazy, które hoduje w domu i podzielić się wskazówkami, gdybyście mieli ochotę spróbować uzyskać podobne do tych na zdjęciu:

Succulents are recently one of the most popular interior plants. We tend to think about them as some little greens, like here. This time I wanted to show you some larger sizes I have at home and explain how I plant them if you would like to get similar effect to these:

Ten typ sukulentów znany jest jako grubosze lub drzewko szczęścia. Pochodzą z Afryki ale w naszej części Europy świetnie sprawdzają się jako rośliny domowe. Moga urosnąc do 1 metra i, co ważne, przeżyją trudne warunki jakie mamy zimową porą, gdy nie ma za wiele słońca, a powietrze jest ciepłe i suche od grzejników. W ziemie podlewam je naprawdę bardzo niedużo raz w tygodniu i staram się je postawić jak najbliżej okien. Z mojego doświadczenia, jeśli mam wątpliwość co do częstotliwości podlewania, wolę poczekać dodatkowy tydzień niż podlać za dużo.

I have the succulents' type known as Crassulas. They are from Africa but here in Europe are a great home plants and decor. They can grow up to 1 meter and can survive winters at home, when the conditions are difficult for most of the plants, i.e. when it is dark, warm and dry due in the heating period. In the winter I water them very little once a week and try to keep them as close to the window as possible to get more sunlight. From my experience it is better not to water rather than water them too much. So if you are not sure wait additional week.

Wiosną serwuje im "strzyżenie" - ucinam 5-7 cm kawałki co pozwala pozyskać nowe okazy, ale też pozwala zagęścić roślinę macierzystą. Poniżej jak to robię:

In the spring I give them "a cut" - I cut 5-7 cm pieces in order to have new plants as well as stimulate the main plant to have more leaves. See below how it looks like:

Z kawałków odrzucam dolne liście i wkładam do dzbanka z wodą na kilka tygodni, tak aby wykształciły się korzonki. W między czasie będziecie mieć ładną dekorację na stolik:

I tear off lower leaves from these pieces and just put them to the water for few weeks to get the roots. In the mean time you will get a nice flower table decor:

Kiedy pojawią się korzonki można je przesadzić do doniczki w ziemią pomieszaną z piaskiem (idealnie w proporcji pół na pół).

When the roots are visible, you can put the little plants into pot with the soil mixed with some sand (ideally in equal parts).

Nie przesadzajcie często roślin do większych doniczek - one preferują małe ciasne donice. Ja zmieniam raz na 3-5 lat, a jeśli roślina jest naprawdę sporych rozmiarów, tylko wymieniam wierzchnią warstwę ziemi. Zerknijcie jak nieduża jest doniczka tego giganta:

Do not change to larger pots very often - they prefer small planters. For example I change mine every 3-5 years, and if the plant is big, I just change the cover layer of the soil to the fresh one. See the planter size for this one:

Latem przenoszę grubosze na balkon, jednak unikam miejsc, gdzie słońce operuje naprawdę mocno, gdyż może poparzyć liście. Jednak gdy to się Wam zdarzy, przenieście roślinę w ciemniejsze miejsce a poparzone listki oberwijcie. W sezonie letnim podlewam więcej i częściej (z odrobiną odżywki). Nadal staram się nie przelewać roślin! Uwierzcie, rosną one bardzo szybko i zdrowo na zewnątrz. Popatrzcie: 

In the summer I keep my succulents at the balcony, but I avoid very sunny places as the leaves may be burnt. However if this happens just put them into less sunny place and cut these leaves away. In the summer season I water the plants once a week (with some fertiliser) but still I try to make sure that the soil gets dry before I water them again. Believe me, these plants grow so fast and healthy when they are outside. See yourself:

Ginger jar history

Uwielbiamy dekorować tymi ceramicznymi wazami toaletki, komody, regały. O ginger jars czyli wazach na imbir - trochę historii przy okazji wspomnienia z wizyty w muzeum w Mumbaju.

Produkcja ceramiki w Chinach sięga 5 tysięcy lat, natomiast porcelany dopiero 10tego wieku. Wtedy też zaczęły powstawać wazy w kształcie owalnego słoja zamykanego wieczkiem do przechowywania soli, olejów, przypraw. Skąd akurat nazwa ginger jar? Na Zachód eksportowano imbir właśnie w takich naczyniach, a moda na chińską sztukę i rzemiosło, zwane chinoiserie, w 19tym wieku spopularyzowała je jako piękny dekoracyjny element.  

Kolekcja w Mumbaju jest imponująca, choć zdjęcia niestety nie oddają tego w pełni (niestety dość ciemne, nie zbyt doświetlone pomieszczenia). Ilość kształtów i różnorodność ręcznie malowanych wzorów i scenek jest imponująca.

The production of the pottery in China reaches 5k years, however the porcelain has started in 10th century. At these times the jars with the lid on were made for storage of salt, oils, spices. Why ginger jar? Ginger was exported to the West in these vases, and they became popular together with chinoiserie fascination in the 19th century.

The collection in Mumbai is remarkable, although you may not see it well due to poor photos (the rooms are dark and with no sufficient light). But you can see how many shapes, sizes, hand painted scenes and decors are there.

Succulents in blue pottery / Sukulenty w ceramice z Bolesławca

Spodobała mi się ostatnio ceramika z Bolesławca i jej granatowa kolorystyka. Zastanawiałam się jak ją wykorzystać w moich dekoracjach. Jej obłe i tradycyjne kształty pasują do sukulentów i gruboszy o prostej i nowoczesnej konstrukcji. W firmowym sklepie w Warszawie wybrałam okrągły nieduży mlecznik w najbardziej tradycyjny wzór. 

Teraz w mleczniku teraz rozwijają się kolejne szczepki grubosza. Aby zrównoważyć lekko rustykalny charakter ceramiki skomponowałam ją z niewielką metalową ramką ze zdjęciem rodzinnego Sącza mojej babci z 1952 roku. Szczerze, niewiele na nim widać, ale to raczej wartość sentymentalna.

Recently I was inspired by the Polish blue pottery and its deep blue colors. I was planning how to utilise these beauties at home. The pottery has rounded and traditional shapes which contracts with simple leaves of succulents. In the store in Warsaw I selected a little milk pot with the most typical pattern and color for Boleslawiec pottery.  

Now the milk pot helps new succulents to grow. In order to balance a rustic charm of the pot I matched it with the metal frame. Inside there is an old photo of my grandmother of our home town dated 1952. Honestly, not much is visible but this is more sentimental.
